Tesselation

Walt: make tessellations.

My tessellation

Can you see the pattern? In Room 11 we have been learning about tessellations. I found out that tessellation in not just art, it has a never ending pattern. Then we created our own and this is what I came up with. All I need was two coloured papers, a pencil (to outline the fish) Scissors, glue, and vivid. Everybody did different patterns. Now I would like to see a post of your tessellation. This was my first time making a tessellation.

Step 5, final Tarte Tatin

Before this step we placed a pastry ON TOP of the pan. We placed the pastry on top so it will bake. After it has baked and it's golden brown, let  rest for two minutes. After it has rested flip the pan upside for the apples to all onto the pastry. Next  we ...
Place it on a plate. Now it's ready to eat with, French ice-cream and Pomegranate. It was delicious and simple to make. Try it for yourself some day. Hmm ... yummy! Doesn't that look nice!

Step 4 Tarte Tatins

Later place the apples in the butter. Let the sugar mingle with the butter to get that caramel flavour. When it looks cooked and smells, feels, taste cooked then it is time to take it of the stove (off course)

Tarte Tatin

Walt: ???

Not so long ago the children in Room 11 did a maths test. When the maths test was over, our teacher was revealed. Nearly every child got a high result in their test and miss was overwhelmed. Miss hit us with an idea, she decided we should bake something for each student. Recently we made Tarte Tatins (its a dessert with a apple and Carmel)

First we peeled the apples and cut them in quarters. Then we squeezed the lemon all over the apples. Britney loves lemon so she ate the rest. To be continued ...

Walt: Solve problems in Strand.

Gallons and Quarts

This game is about converting. Please forget the music (in the top left corner) I was just having fun. Anyway, I couldn't understand what this game was actual about but I will give it time. The easiest part was obviously choosing the answer. The challenge part was knowing which one is the actual answer. I guessed a lot but I sooner or later I won't be guessing.

Music

Walt: 1. write a narrative.
        2. write in paragraphs.

Music

I was listening to my music one night. My mum interrupted me on the other side of the door.
“Chelly, dinner’s ready!” mother shouted. I glared at the door, and carried on listening to my songs. Five minutes later my dad walked in. I hate it when my parents disturb me! So annoying!

“What are you doing?” Dad whispered silently.

I frown at him and pretend I didn’t hear a word. He looks at my phone and reads my texts. I push him aside and walk towards the door. We both walk out the door, my pace was a little bit faster. As I sat on the chair, my mother questions me.
“Chelly, Why did you bring your phone?” As if I ever wanted to answer her.
“Chelly, answer me or I will...” I cut her half way.
“I am listening to my music” staring my mother into her eyes. I love my music. I was listening to 2 Pac that night.

I could see the anger rising inside my mothers eyes. My dad just looked exhausted from working. I pick up my fork and start to pick at the vegetables. A few moments later my mother snatched the phone of me. I forgot to log out by the way. Anyways, she should know how much I adore that thing. So then, I ran into my room and slammed the door behind me. I can sense what she was doing. She was probably scrolling up and down my messages, deleting and replying. I sulked on my bed for two minutes, then my father came into my room again.

The next morning I went to my mothers room. I didn’t want to apologize, I mean, do I have to. She took my phone so she did the wrong thing. Well apologizing was the only way to get my phone back. I thought of stealing it but I would just make things worst . Okay. I awoken my mother. My heart was just racing. I took big deep breaths. She sat up. I took another breath and apologized. She looked surprised and hugged me. I hate hugs from my parents. Ugh! disgusting. She handed over the phone. I was relieved and sprinted to my bed.

It was 6 am on a Saturday morning, my dad left to work. My mother was in the kitchen cooking. I could smell the pancakes with golden syrup from my room. I couldn’t be bothered getting out of my Pyjamas. She was sliding a hot plate onto the table from the stove. My eyes started to grow bigger and bigger. For the first time I left my phone in my room. I ate every bit too.
The theme of this story is to listen to your parents and control your habits.

The penguin with a problem

Walt: 1. write a narrative.
        2. use words to paint a picture.

The penguin with a problem

It’s been three days since I haven’t been home. All I saw was white blocks of gigantic ice. The temperature was worser than New Zealand. I went to my wardrobe to put on extra layers. As I was holding onto the side-bar, I could see a penguin from a distance.

Just a little pinch of light led me to the penguin. It squealed and squealed. I felt like it was squealing  for me. On it’s white coated, beautiful fur, it had drips of blood. I was shocked. I grabbed one more jacket and ran off the ship. Tears were running down the penguins face. Since my job was saving antarctica animals, I’d assumed I would help.

I sprinted back onto the ship. I could feel the coldness punch my cheeks. It was night time so I was sure to take my glow in the dark torch. I ran to the front of the ship to ring somebody. I heard crackling noises. Inside my heart, I was struggling. Maybe this poor penguin needed me? So I went back to the penguin with an axe.

The axe was razor blade sharp and incredibly big. I started axing the ice. I was careful enough to dodge the penguin. It shrieked loudly over night. My ears turned red. I was near the penguins feet by then. At 6 am in the morning the penguin was loose to roam again. I fell on the cold harden ice. After a few hours of sleep in my ship, I went back to New Zealand.

The news spread wide world quickly. Everyone was clueless with no evidence given. Five years later somebody went to antarctica and found the penguin. That person sore the scare hidden beneath the fur. I became a little bit famous. The person who found the penguin.....
to be continued....

The theme of this story is to help when someone or something needs help, even if you are alone. :D

Alvie didn’t attack the squirrel but made sure he was protected for when he runs into them again. I have never been bullied my whole life, if cyber bullied is included then yes. When I was getting bullied I ignored her and continued. Alvie learned that you don’t have to attack a bully next time you see one, just keep your cool and get help.

Fireworks

Walt: 1. write a narrative.
        2. use words to paint a picture.
        3. use senses.

Fireworks

That scent you get when the firework has blown. I was sniffing smoke all around One Tree Hill. It was Guy Fawkes night and woah!, wasn’t it crowded. I didn’t light any fireworks. To me, fireworks were over rated.

Bang! bang! Boom! Boom! those fireworks couldn’t stop mimicking each other. I thought that night was my last. I was so frightened, I decided to go back to my car. As I was running to hop back in my car, there was this loud firework that just went crazy. I dropped dead to my knees as the sound punched my left ear. I couldn’t see a single person when I arose. It was misty. Someone just started squealing as the big one shot. Everyone zoomed past me to see wh at was going on. I’m not that noisy so I carried on running to my car.

The scream got worser. It was like a parrot screeching in my ear. The fireworks suddenly stopped. I was so worried. I got out of the car and ran to the crowd. Nothing in sight so far, just people gossiping. I started standing on the edge of my toes. Blood mingled with the grass. My eyes biggered when I saw that hopeless child.

The ambulance arrived in a few seconds. It wasn’t my child, but I still shared tears. The police also came to shut the field down. The crowd began to disappear a few hours later. Then there was me. Just thinking what could have happened if that huge firework didn’t go off. I took nobody to blame. It was Guy Fawkes night so there will definitely be big fireworks. Duh!

I went home and ordered some pizza. The child was obviously in hospital for a while. I wished my hardest, that child should and will survive. I haven’t seen another incident like that ever again, I hope not too. The next year was even better because no children were found. I still don’t buy fireworks. I only went the year after and I haven’t been back.
The theme of this story is to be aware of what's going on and stay safe around fireworks.
Fixing up the choice of language.

Halloween is here! SO...BEWARE!!!

Walt: write a poem with meanings and rhymes.

Halloween-poem

On the 31st of October
There are really scary stuff
the eve of “all saints day”
It is also believed
That the ghost aboard earth
Free candy
Of strangers
is all I think of
Children’s dress up
as everything scary in mind
Witches, ghost and pumpkins
all represent it
Bloody teeth
bushy hair
spiders, pumpkins
everything!
Halloween is here!
SO....BEWARE!!!!

revision of translation

Walt: solve problems in geometry and measurement.

Transforming-revision

This game is just about translation (transforming). I had to translate the triangle coloured, to the area that was given. The answer Q is the answer because you can not rotate the shape. The easy part was knowing where to place the triangle. The challenging part was drawing the shape of the triangle. Next I would like to draw, and translate different, and harder shapes then a triangle.

Revision of reflection, translation, and rotation

Walt: solve problems in geometry and measurement.

Revision of reflection, translation, and rotation

This game is about revising my knowledge about reflection, translation and rotation. In the picture it shows a “Q” being translated. I found this game a bit easy because I have did this before. The challenging part was remembering how to do it. I have learnt so many things within this aspect of maths. Next I want to reflect, translate, and rotate more difficult shapes.

Visiting to Marae...

Today (Oct, Th 2013) My school went to the Marae in Glen Innes centre. There were kaumatuas and the minister of health was there. We sang some traditional Maori songs through the day. Alison (a nurse) asked everybody if anybody had a sore throat. Nobody put there hand up. So Tony Ryall volunteered to demonstrate. Later that day we were invited to take a photo with all the nurses and the ministry. I had alot of fun that day!

Walt: draw a two sided stem and leaf plot.

Two way stem and leaf plot

In our maths group one day we were revising two way stem and leaf plot. In the photo, it is evident that the girls (on the right) is has one girl taller than everybody else. In the girls group, there is one girl that measures 138 cm. The range from the boys starts from 141 and ends at 169. The median, mean, and mode will land in the 150 strip.

I'm sure I heard the sound of....

Walt: 1. write a narrative.
        2. keep our head held high.

Help!

I heard the sound of...someone crying aloud. Pitter-patter went the rain all day. As I was regularly walking home from school, I heard someone squealing. It got louder. Then something caught the edge of my eyes.

I had witnessed an innocent child been beaten badly. Bullying, is not my life. I was breathless watching something so bad. I considered to do something. The closer I got to the bully, the more that child got bruised. I glimpsed at the bully and the child. So I risked my innocence.

“Why don’t you pick on someone your own age?!” I howled at the bully giving him the evil eyes. He frowned. We were eyeing each other for a while. All I wanted was that child to be safe. The bully’s eyes were glued to me. The child looked startled. Maybe that child was relieved.

The poor child looked frightened. What an idiot! so I thought. The bully looked big and strong. Doesn't mean I'm scared. The bully was wearing ripped jeans and a black singlet. The child was wearing a rain jacket with his uniform underneath.

I picked up the child. We created a friendship as we walked side by side. I nominated to help him get back home safely. The bully disappeared unpleasantly. I reckon that bully was shocked that I stood up for the victim. Tears ran down that child’s face all day.
The theme of this story is to keep your head up, and to stop bullies when you see one.

Burn, burn burn....

Walt: write a narrative.

What’s going on!!!

“Ugh!” John screamed helplessly. The flames burst up out of the long grass forming a circle around John. Everybody cried and shouted for help. I felt the pressure of the fire that pushed against me. It’s like the end of the world. The stars were just glaring at John.

“The wind is not strong enough!” John’s sister yells. John was upset. My heart was beating at the speed of a cheater running. My temperature was outrageously high. Only if there was an idea. I couldn’t think at all that day, there was just too much going on. John thought that he was going to die. I thought the opposite to John. As I jerked out my phone, I ran backwards so I couldn’t feel the heat. I was sweating and exhausted.

“Hello, can I have the fire department please!” I spoke into the phone. The phone was playing up. I was standing there, pushing my fingers deeply into the phone, frowning, and biting my tongue. Why is the phone playing up? I ran around to the others to ask to use the phone. As I was asking I could hear John screaming, “Hurry Clear! Hurry!” He was depending on me, I couldn’t let him down.

“Woosh!” The wind was blowing rapidly. I finally found a phone with good connection. The elderly lady handed me the phone. I dialled 111 and called for the fire department. I could see them coming from afar so I wave my hands, jumping excitedly. I can see tears racing down John’s cheeks. I didn’t want to get into the firemens way. They pulled the hose out and started scaring away the fire. It was like a war between fire and humans. The firemen washed away a block of fire so John would run out. Then they washed away the rest.

It was very misty and I couldn’t see anyone. As I turned to my left, I could see John running towards me from a distance. He squeezed me. That hug was too tight and his temperature was really high. I felt like a hero. After all the hassling and drama, I went home and lied in bed. John went back to his home too. Everytime we ran into each other, he would thank me repeatedly. I will never forget that day, it’s a special memory.
The theme of this story is to be careful and stay aware.

Dear Mr. Williamson

Dear Mr. Williamson,

Thank you for talking to Glen Innes school about your work life. I will take your advice and treasure it deeply. You have given me something to think about for a long time. Maybe I would join the I.T Industry one day. My future dream is to be a doctor and travel the world. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and beliefs. Most of all I would like to say thank you for giving your time up just to come to our school to talk. I thought it was funny and also sad that you didn’t know how to spell, but luckily the computers have spelling checks. When you told us how much we can earn in two years, I was shocked and speechless. I learnt that I can ignore all distractions on life. I appreciate everything you told us.

Valerie Villi-Athletics

Walt: write a narrative.

Athletics-Valerie Ville

Sitting in the crowd, waited Valerie. It was the finals and all she wanted was that gold medal. Valerie encourages herself “I can do this, I will win this!” 30 minutes left until it is her turn to shine.

Valerie decided to take a walk. As she was walking along the soft grass, she saw a man getting pulled into the ambulance vehicle. She had these horrible thoughts spinning inside her head. Valerie jogged to the player and found that it was Usain Bolt. Who would believe that the fastest man yet on earth was injured. Valerie couldn’t stand all the blood surrounding her and flashes of the camera. So she gave Usain her respect and moved on.

Now there is only 10 minutes left till Valerie's turn. She glimpsed at the time and ran back to position. Sweat slides down her face as the timer goes on. It felt like she was wearing too many layers of tops but it was just her being nervous. She thought about what happened on the field earlier that day, and believed it wouldn’t happen to her. Maybe she was right, but nobody knows if she was wrong.

“Walking onto the field is Valerie Ville, She looks vicious for that gold medal” so the umpire says. In Valerie's sight, she saw nothing but the shot put ball. Not a single cheer was running in her mind, it was silent. As she threw the shot put,  she pulled a muscle and collapsed. She was seeing stars and butterflies. Just as she closed her eyes, she could see people running up to her. The people picked Valrie up and placed her in the ambulance. The sirens were loud, but not loud enough to wake her up.

Valrie wakes up and finds that she is in the hospital. Her family is sitting on the chairs about to go to sleep. She sits up and stares at her arm, she has that shocked face. Her mother see’s Valrie rise and she stands up and hugs Valrie tightly. Valrie is speechless, all she was saying repeatedly “What happened? ” No one answered because they were just thrilled that she’s alive. She stayed in hospital for 4 weeks. After 4 weeks she started training again. She still doesn’t know who won that medal. Everyone was worried that it might happen again, but Valrie didn’t care. She didn’t care at all.
The theme of this story is to never give up, and be careful.

Going through the emotions

Going through the emotions

Bursting with excitement! We unpacked the bus and we all collapsed once we finished. No one was hungry but everyone still ate. “I never felt so alive!” so I told my best friend. She looked at me and smiled. We both toured the camp to ourselves, discreetly leaving the rest of the school behind. She was afraid to get in trouble so we raced back to everyone and kept silent for a while. All we did was glare at the other schools and run in circles.

Sitting on the hockey field, our school starts a seriously conversation. I was bored so I went to the other schools to make new friends. Most of the people I met were mean to me and telling me that their school was going to win. I didn’t take a single taunt from them, I just moved to the next person. After chatting with all my new friends, I introduced them to my best friend. They weren’t excited but my best friend was. My best friend was trying to read my mind, and some how, she knew what I was thinking.

First sport of the day was netball. Most the netball girls were ready, but some were just too lazy. I was determined to play netball and it was one of the sports I wanted to go to sports camp for. I tried to get our girls up and running but they didn’t listen. The hooter went, we gave our cheer, and away we played. Thinking that our team was good, we met a team who I thought were even better. Our team had girls that looked big and good, and the opposition had little girls.

“Defend! Defend!” My teacher belched. Huffed and puffed everywhere I ran. Losing by 8 goals but still having pride. We boost up our energy for that future trophy. Even with sore joints, and bones, I still try my best. My partner is really fast, but I believe that I am better. She dodges me left to right but I think for a while, and I intercepted that ball. Taking over the chart is finally us. Our team cheering with joy “Who are, Who are, Who are we...GI....!” After a few chants, I was just running with the wind!

My cheeks feel so red! Woohoo! We won! I just couldn’t believe it. In that very moment, I forgot about my sore legs and everything. I ran to all my friends and squeezed them. I didn’t want to be over dramatic so I still shook hands and said thank you. I saw the sadness on their faces but so I patted every girls back. Netball was just the best sport ever, next was basketball, oh no!
...to be continued...

The theme of this story is to not think you're great at everything.

Spinning clown

Walt: solve problems in statistics.

Spinning clown

This game is simple to play and easy to complete. You just have to choose the right spinning top. It has a little problem in the middle of the board that instructs you. Next I would like to play a similar game to this, but harder and one with more options.

Probabilty

Walt: solve problems in statistics.

Probability

These two games had to do with probability, and a little bit about statistics. The first game was about a girl and her sister. Her sister wasn't playing fair. The second game was about knowing how to do probability with cupcake options. I found these to games abit easy and challenging because the problem always changes. Both games were hard to understand in the beginning. Next I would like to learn how to solve harder problems than these two games.

All about me-the start of this year

All about me in 2013

I hope to learn a lot more about measurements and volume in the maths category. Measurements and volume is one of the hardest things in the maths category for me. I need to grab a book at the library or even do measurement and volume homework.
I would love to learn college so I don't need to worry when it comes to scholarship examines. I want something challenging for me to learn this year. The goal for me this year is to keep up with work and don't slow down. I would also love to learn how to make a lot of friends and how to ignore the silly students.

This year in my opinion, would be exciting. Learning new things such as, the hard things like year 8 work. With work I would make it exciting not hard and stressing about it. I think it won't be that long for me to get use to the new work. I can not wait until we go technology because there will be more of us then last year..

Leadership will take a lot of learning for, like transporting the parents to their set to watch an amazing thing like Jump rope. Also learning how to be a receptionist, learning how to cooperate with people on the phone. Learning things for me is exciting.

The thing I am looking forward to this year is when our school has the athletics events. I love that sport the most. It helps me with exercise and everything else. Challenging others is what I like doing. It is fun and competitive for me.

Measure and record

Walt: measure and record how many times the marble rolls and where it lands.

Measure and record

In this picture, it shows the cardboard ramp that we used to roll the marble down. Mary and I used the dictionary books to stand the cardboard ramp up. After rolling the marble down the ramp, get the measuring tape in line with the marble and record the number on the measuring tape. The paper under the measuring tape is for the marble to roll straight. The maths book on the side has the last records. The girl in the background, Alisi, is also playing the same game.

Tuesday 17 September 2013

Marble roll-Ramp A and B

Walt: 1.measure and record distances accurately.
2.graph the starting position and distances travelled.
3.On scatter graph, talk about distinctive features of scatter graphs.
4.make statements, backed up by reference to graphs, about possible actions.

Marble roll-Ramp A

In our maths group we dropped the marble to roll down the rivet, (a wooden ramp) or a cardboard ramp (handmade). First we dropped the marble on a special point marked on the ramp. The first point was 45 and we used the rivet. We rolled the marble 4 times and recorded it. We also did that with other marked places, next we drew a scatter graph.
My scatter graph wasn't very good so I borrowed my friends one. I found it hard to challenging to understand, later on it got easier to work. Next our teacher told us to try a website of scatter graphs online.

I found that the scatter graphs online were better than in making it. I was confused in the beginning but after a few trials, it was simple. After all this I had to analyze it. Our teacher told us children, to get past level 4, we have to know how to draw and stack data into scatter graphs and line graphs.

Impetigo

Walt: study skin infections.

Impetigo-The skin

What is impetigo?

Impetigo is a skin infections which is contagious. Impetigo is spread around human beings quickly. It can transform into yellow crusty sores. It is also a rash that affects the epidermis. It can spread human contact, or germs from a thing that the infected person has touched. It is most contagious when the rash is oozing. It starts as blisters.

Who are most infected?

Childrens and little babies are mostly infected.  I think that childrens and babies mostly get infected with Impetigo because they elders, make contact with the little ones more often.

How we identify impetigo?

Impetigo appears mostly on the face, arms and legs, sometimes on the elbows. You will find, on someone elses face, there would be pus coming out of the rash or, it is very close to the nose. Impetigo is easily spotted and easily given to another.

Valentines

Walt: to discuss the problem and the solution in sequence.

Valentines

Tasha sees the rose that Robbie holds tightly up on his chest. “Who is that for???” Tasha questions Robbie. Robbie is being annoyed and he doesn’t like it. Tasha disturbs him with girls names, she guesses who he will give it too. Tasha sat next to him on the bus and Robbie frowns and says “Why can’t you sit somewhere else?” Tasha ignores his question and lights up her face asking “What about ‘Here is a token of my love’ Karen” Robbie started blushing about what she said-but he was still distracted. Once the bus stopped Robbie ran as fast as he could away from his annoying sister.

Robbie was keeping a close eye Karen when she was grinning at Brett Harveys expensive jokes. Karen was entertained while Robbie was watching her laugh with joy. His friend Dan came over and explained to Robbie about his Valentines day. Dan was upset that Angela didn't get anything because Dan had nothing to give. Angela had a sour face all day, everywhere she went she felt down. Dan asked Robbie for money but Robbie had none. While Dan was asking and explaining, Robbie couldn't concentrate because he could hear Karens laugh in the background. Robbie and his friend, Dan left the room to get away from the connection between Karen and Brett.

Robbie directed Dan to the rose he through inside his locker. Robbie dragged it out and pushed it against Dan. Robbie said quickly “Give it to Angela” Dan was happy and also shocked because he was suspicious about who Dan was going to give it too. Robbie looked down and said that it was for no one. Dan read his body language and questioned “Do you still like Karen?” Robbie was honest with Dan's question and replied “I like her but I don’t think she likes me” Dan tried to care but he was overwhelmed with the rose. Dan left.

Robbie decided to walk home and ditch the bus. He went training but he already knew he had to walk past the bus stop. He didn't want to go past the bus, or on the bus, because he knew Karen would be there.

When he was walking past, Karen said hi from afar. Robbie thought she was waving to Brett but it was just Robbie. Karen shoved an envelope into Robbie's hand and had a little chat. Karen was saying goodbye but Robbie was already tearing the envelope open. It had a little message saying “To Robbie, Happy Valentine’s”

Milks in Schools

Walt: share our thoughts on “Milks in Schools”

Milks in Schools

I think children need milk because it keeps them energised and some children tend to like milk.

The government shouldn't be responsible for giving the children milk it should be more like the parents giving the milk to the children. If the parents can’t give milk for their children then the government shouldn't, I mean, Why should the government give milk? Some parents don’t give milk because milk is not really important to give to children anyway.

If milk was given to the children it would make them happy. Milk has calcium, and calcium gives people energy to do things.

Poverty is the real issue in New Zealand, but not just New Zealand, because the people that live in my environment, do not spend their money wisely and most people are unemployed, they rely on the benefit. Others don’t have time to buy milk for children to drink, they use the milk for other things like their cereals and ect.

On Tuesday 3rd September, we didn't have a game of Netball instead, we had prize giving. At prize giving, lots of teams were receiving certificates and a gift. I found that day to be amazing but the worst part was when I walked on stage, and my friend Mary, pulled the back of my shoes. We sat on high chairs looking at everyone smile. Prize giving was really short but also fun. My favourite part of the day would have been taking photos with the team. :)

Cross Country-poem/rap

Walt: write a rap/poem.

Cross Country

Sweat slides down my face
Persevered to finish the race
I really want to come first
Everything just gets worse

Jogging at the very start
All I hear is my dangerous heart
Beating at a very high rate
At the end...I feel great

I have to try to beat the time
The mud looks like slime
My friends are very slow
But their energy tends to grow

At the end, I start to sprint
The marshals give me positive hints
Bouncing on the wet grass
Wear shoes to not stand on glass

Tired as can be
I can see a lot of trees
Competing with other people
Cheating shouldn't be legal

Running in a big group
Going through loop to loops
I see Claudia  way ahead
“WAIT UP CLAUDIA!!!” I said
